Thistle & Bee and Project 1 Collective Arts are collaborating on the creation of a unique theatrical experience called Squaring Up in order to raise awareness about the issue of Human Sex Trafficking in Memphis.

Project 1 Collaborative Arts creates open, honest conversation about human rights issues facing the community of Memphis, TN by devising a collaborative theatrical experience between artists, community advocates, and theatre audiences to increase social awareness and inspire action. Thistle & Bee is a social enterprise, based in Nashville, devoted to the thriving of survivors of human trafficking. The group raises bees, grows herbs, and works to build a business that will provide holistic workforce preparedness to women rebuilding their lives. St. Therese of Lisieux (Lisieux Community) is a residence for women who have survived addiction, prostitution, and life on the streets.

Squaring Up will perform Thursday-Saturday, May 18-20, & Thursday-Saturday, May 25-27, at The Orange Mound Gallery in Memphis, TN. We hope to make all tickets Pay-What-You-Can. At the end of each performance, audience members will be invited to take part in an immersive artistic experience (Co-Creation) and a talk-back to process the performance and discuss how community members can help end sex trafficking in Memphis. The Co-Creation portion of the performance is a group visual art activity led by Sarah Nowlin.
